"Brooke and Jennifer are excellent practitioners, and Hobart is very lucky to have access to their expertise. The Shiatsu and cupping treatments have made a huge difference to a significant injury problem I have had for many years. I didn't expect treatments to have such a strong impact! Jennifer's massages have to be experienced to be believed! It's ultimate luxury! You'll be addicted after one massage, I guarantee! The benefits of Qigong are well known, so it will be fantastic for people to have access to such highly trained instructors. Good luck for the opening of Zest East West Urban Retreat on April 23! Qigong is an ancient form of healing practiced by the Chinese which originated close to 4,500 years ago. Qigong incorporates a number of physical exercises and meditative practices which increase the longevity of an individual's life along with promoting their general health and strength.
A number of the meditation aspects of qigong have been adapted from the teaching of Buddhism and yoga. The central idea in qigong is the manipulation of qi (or 'chi' as it is also known) which is believed to be the life force present in all things and elements such as air, water and food. Qigong manipulates this energy in order to fight off diseases which considered to be caused when there is an imbalance of qi.
Qigong focuses on three main aspects of the individual, the mind, the body and the sprit. Meditation is used to strengthen the mind while external elements such as herbs can be used to strengthen the body as well. Qigong considers that a person's qi or life force travels through 12 main meridians or channels which correspond to the 12 main organs.
Breathing techniques and working through various postures are also used to help regulate and balance the energy inside a person's body. One of the main aims of qigong is to help individuals deal with stress that can cause a number of medical conditions.
Qigong exercises are not only limited to the sick. They can be performed on a daily basis by healthy individuals to help prevent any disease or illness.
As with other forms of natural medicine, qigong is non invasive and gentle. This allows its practice to be done by anyone regardless of age or physical condition. The treatment can be customized for each individual making sure that they reap the maximum benefits.
