Rebirthing

Rebirthing is a technique which was invented by Leonard Orr in the mid 1960's. Rebirthing uses a number of breathing techniques whose main focus is to heal the trauma of being born which, rebirthing considers, is repressed by us.

Leonard believes that the trauma of being born is something which can affect a person's psyche. For example people who were born with the aid of forceps might rely on others to help them through difficult phases of their lives. These traumas have a way of controlling a person's life even if they are not aware of it.

Leonard saw that by practicing certain breathing exercises he was able to remember aspects of the birth that had been stored away for his entire life.

How Does Rebirthing Work

Rebirthing can be part of a therapy session or it can be taught to individuals over a series of lessons.

A rebirthing session can consist of the individual using connected breaths for periods of up to two hours. Connected breaths is when the breather does not pause between exhales and inhales, this causes the body to build up oxygen in the blood thereby, rebirthing considers, increasing the life force or qi in the body.

By doing so, the stress and tension stored in the body starts to get released and through relaxation the individual is able to access memories and release stored emotions. Rebirthing sessions concentrate on:

• Identifying traumas during birth
• Inherited attitudes
• Identifying and eliminating specific negative thoughts

By releasing the stored up tension and stress the individual is able to live a healthier life and may be less susceptible to stress related problems such as cardiac diseases and anxiety.

Before you start rebirth therapy it is important to:

• Make sure that the practitioner is properly certified and licensed as incorrect techniques can be harmful.
• Understand that rebirthing allows you to relive stored stress and will not cure other diseases or illnesses.
