StartLocal is looking to find a talented and dedicated person to help lead our internal development team. StartLocal is looking for a person that enjoys solving complex problems in Perl, SOLR as well as using Jquery / Ajax and html. The Senior Web Application Developer position will help the evolution of functionality of StartLocal and help the expansion of StartLocal across vertical directories and internationally. We are looking for an exceptional individual that wants to push the boundaries of Local Search in Australia and across the world.

Responsibilities:

• Overcome tough, technically oriented challenges in the local search market
• Work with Javascript and jQuery for the UI
• Some management of server clusters and Varnish caching servers
• Discuss, design and develop large scale search solutions in Perl, HTML and SOLR
• Utilise MySQL, sql programming, stored procedures and database design
• Work within a team based environment

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science (or related study) is preferred with at least 3-4 years of solid experience developing web applications
• Ability and willingness to learn new skills
• Strong programming skills in object-oriented Perl
• Demonstrated technical troubleshooting, deployment and application performance tuning experience
• Familiarity with jQuery and Javascript (Experience highly desirable)
• Experience in a high-volume production service environment
• Ability to work well with other people and teams, both lead and take direction
• Experience with Java
• Superior analytical skills and a strong sense of ownership in your work and an enjoyment of producing great results
• Experience with MySQL, relational databases, indexing and creation/ management of stored procedures

Desired:

• Previous experience with Varnish caching servers
• Experience or exposure to SOLR, Lucene or related systems
• Expertise in Unix or Linux system administration
• Other HTML, XML, Web UI toolkits (jQuery particularly) and CSS experience

$90k salary package including Superannuation. Be on the frontier of Local Search.
