"Join the team at Leisure Boating Melbourne. It is a fantastic experience from the land to the water. "
Since there are many businesses that rent boats and private individuals who own boats and yachts in Australia, several clubs and organizations in every State and Territory were formed in order for these sailing enthusiasts to enjoy this recreational activity with others who have the same passion. These motor boat clubs became a venue where people can share experiences in boating and yachting activities, hold meetings to discuss current issues that affect the boating community of each State, and to organize activities that people can join and enjoy. It's also become a venue for people to show off their skills in boating and yachting activities and the quality of their vessels. In fact, a great number of motor boat clubs in the world are all located in Australia.
Motor boat clubs are organised like any other club or organization with committees and a chairman or a director. Some motor boat clubs use naval terminology for these positions such as the commodore and vice commodore (in charge of land-based activities) and rear commodore (in charge of water-based activities). These ranks have specific responsibilities and obligations to ensure the smooth running of the club. Some motor boat clubs require its members or committee members to wear coat and tie while inside the premises of the club.
Most motor boat clubs have a well defined racing program such as regattas ranging from informal local events to national championships. The club organises regular weekday or weekend racing schedules participated by other clubs. There are also some specific boat models and lengths that have their own clubs as well. A good number of motor boat clubs have entered into an agreement with schools to provide dock space and practice facilities for the school teams year-round.
The recently formed Boating Industry Alliance Australia is the peak body for the entire boating industry in Australia and represents all other boating associations and clubs in every State and Territory. Meanwhile, the Australian International Marine Export Group is the peak body representing the marine export industry in Australia which is comprised of companies involved in the manufacture and design of all types of yachts and boats.
Despite the popularity and support boat clubs and organizations receive there are challenges that are being experienced by the boating community that prevent it from fully enjoying the benefits of the recreational activity. Such challenges include the restrictive state and federal policies that make access to waterways more difficult and the overregulation of boating activities.
