Kristie has been playing the piano for over 20 years and enjoys regular performances as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician, both within Australia and internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance with First Class Honours, along with the University of Queensland medal for outstanding academic excellence. She has appeared as a soloist with the UQ Symphony Orchestra, and has recorded for television and audio albums.

In 2009, Kristie graduated with a Master of Music Therapy, and is a Registered Music Therapist (RMT). She has music therapy experience in special education, adolescent behavioural disorders, adult brain injuries, older adults with dementia, and palliative care. Her special interests include speech and movement in children with disabilities, and memory and communication in older adults with dementia.

Kristie also loves to share her musical passion, knowledge and experience with children and adults during individualised piano and theory lessons. Furthermore, she is available as a recording session musician and an accompanist for exams, concerts or recording sessions.

MUSIC THERAPY
Music therapy is a growing allied health profession that targets improvement in physical, emotional, psychosocial and cognitive health. No musical ability is needed for individuals or groups to experience the benefits of music therapy.

Registered Music Therapists (RMTs) operate in similar ways to psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, often working alongside them within a multi-disciplinary team. However, music therapy stands out as an alternative treatment option to these therapies, as everyone responds to the universal language of music, which serves as a motivator for change.

RMTs work with various children, adolescent and adult populations including:

* Premature infants
* Developmental delays
* Mental and/or physical disabilities
* Acquired brain injuries
* Burns
* Cancer
* Pain
* Progressive illnesses
* Mental illness
* Dementia
* Palliative care

Music therapists employ several techniques including:

* Song writing
* Song singing
* Instrument playing
* Music and movement
* Lyric analysis

Music therapy sessions for individuals may be held in the RMT’s home or the client’s home. Group sessions may be held at the facility in which the clients reside or another place as decided by both parties. An additional fee may be charged for extensive travel. Group music therapy charges are negotiable, depending on numbers.

PIANO & THEORY LESSONS
Kristie conducts piano lessons in a comfortable home studio at Drewvale on Brisbane's south side. Learn for fun or for AMEB examinations (which can also be fun!). Theory is incorporated into the piano lesson, or alternatively, may be offered as a separate lesson (see below). Lessons are individualised to the student’s musical taste, ability and learning style. Children and adults are welcome.

Music theory lessons enable students to learn how to read and write music and understand the principles of harmony, rhythm and musical form. Preparation for AMEB examinations is encouraged. Theory lessons may be given to students who are preparing for an exam, or for those who want to catch up to their practical skills or enhance their understanding of music. (more)
