Singing teacher Raelene Bruinsma draws on over twenty years experience as a singing teacher, registered music therapist, singer songwriter storyteller, and the research of Jo Estill to help you develop a singing voice that fits you. Whether you wish to sing for self expression and confidence, overcome a belief that you can't sing, or develop your existing singing/musical skills, she will work with you to develop the skills and strategies to reach your vocal goals. Sometimes students simply wish to apply the techniques and strategies to other styles of performance, and gain assistance on overcoming nervousness.
The process usually begins with an "initial lesson" - 1 hour - where we meet, discuss your goals, do a little singing and discuss some ways in which we might work together to meet those goals.
After this lessons (still 1 hour long) are booked in blocks of four or blocks of six, and are usually taken weekly. A block of six is recommended to begin, as a commitment to six weeks of work on your voice in most cases gives you long enough to notice some progress towards your goals. (Conditions apply around cancellation/reschedule).
Raelene originally trained as a classical singer as part of her Bachelor or Music (therapy) at Melbourne University. Drawn to more individual style of self expression she began writing, recording and performing her own songs at the age of 30, working with teachers such as Kristina Olsen and doing a TAFE course in contemporary music. She also undertook some training in the Vocal Figures developed by Jo Estill to help her understand and master some of the diversity of ways in which the voice can be used. Currently Raelene is doing the finishing touches on a PhD in performance, a research project which involved her in writing and performing songs based on/ and inspired by, some Ancient literature. She expects to become a "Doctor" in early 2015.
Lessons are scheduled on weekdays and evenings via appointment. Currently teaching days are Tuesday and Wednesday, but there will be additionally flexibility in January and February, 2015.
Initial lessons (max 2): $80
Blocks of Six Lessons: $420
Blocks of Four Lessons: $300
Block of Four 90min lessons (where 2 friends wish to attend together) $420.
SPECIAL OFFER SUMMER 2015!
Over January and February blocks of 6 lessons are available for the price of 4! Deduct an additional $20 if paid before Christmas 2014!
Lessons MUST be used before the end of February (long lessons and a additional lesson in a week will be offered where scheduling permits).
A maximum of two reschedules with 24 hours notice.
In 2015 a 10% discount will be offered to students who book and pay for their next block of lessons on the final day of the current block. This new block must begin the following week and consist of weekly lessons.
Instead of just one reschedule as previously, two reschedules are permitted within a block PROVIDING: a minimum 24 hours notice is given; and the reschedules extend the block by no longer than one week. (A single reschedule may offer more flexibility in the reschedule date).
All missed lessons not fitting into the above criteria are forfeited regardless of reason. (more)
Finding Your Voice is committed to working with you to uncover, discover and create the voice and singing style that suits you. Teacher Raelene Bruinsma has a history of helping people who believed they couldn't sing find joy and skill in using their voices, performers discover ways to sing without hurting their voices, and people prepare a surprise song to sing at an event for a loved one. We also have a history of helping scared people begin to use their voices confidently. There are many ways of using your voice, and sometimes you just need to learn how to drive it in a way to release the sounds you didn't know you had. Sometimes you just need a few tips, and sometimes you need to really focus on developing control over tiny muscles you never realised were there.
