Initially trained in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance, Jessica discovered flamenco at an early age and began her study in Sydney with teachers such as Elena Varga and Ana Ortero. She performed regularly with various Sydney based groups, including a two year residency at the tablao 'La Campana'.
In 2004 she moved to Madrid where she spent 5 years studying intensively at the renowned Amor de Dios academy with artists such as Marco Flores, Concha Jare'o, Manuel Li'an, David Paniagua, Domingo Ortega, Pepa Molina and more, all of whom are at the cutting edge of flamenco today. During her time there she was fortunate to be given opportunities to perform in some of Madrid's tablaos including the popular 'El Juglar'.
Since returning to Australia she has performed with flamenco groups around the country, though most notably as a featured artist of Bandaluzia, one of Australia's most innovative and celebrated flamenco ensembles. She has gained a reputation for her impeccable rhythm and footwork, graceful body technique, impressive musicality and powerful style, making her a valuable member of Australia's contemporary flamenco scene.
Known for her generous teaching style, she has been invited to teach classes in some of Sydney's well established flamenco schools including The Spanish School of Dance and Flamenco Australia and also regularly gives workshops Australia-wide.
She maintains her love of dance in all forms through continued training in ballet and contemporary dance, complementing her technical skill as a flamenco dancer and her creativity as a choreographer. (more)
