Acupuncture is the ancient art of healing by balancing the function of the internal organs with their production and circulation of fluids. Insertion of fine needles into specific locations in the body tissues elicits a response from the body's neurophysiology and wireless anatomy (labelled Qi in Chinese), demonstrating an ability to encourage the balance within the body's internal systems.
An introductory session will mainly consist of a thorough history, any relevant clinical tests, and diagnostic techniques such as tongue and pulse analysis. A treatment will follow using acupuncture points specific to the individual and depending on the case some herbal/nutrition supplementation may be advised. Homework, which is done in between sessions, may consist of taking supplements prescribed, exercise therapy, meditation, breathing exercises, dietary advice, and drinking plenty of plain water.
Typically the Acupuncture Doctor will recommend a series of treatments close together in the beginning to get the most effective results in the long run. A treatment plan is individualised to the person and we encourage long term management for preventative health measures. This can be a very enjoyable health system which encourages healthy choices, staying active, positive thinking, and where possible, preventing serious disease before it takes hold.
