Kyo modern is a Japanese style silk accessories wholesaler based in Sydney. It was established by myself Reiko. I was born in Kyoto and grew up with full of influence of traditional and modern Kyoto culture.

Kyoto is the world well known tourist destination. It was the capital of Japan for over 1000 years. The city has countless world and national heritage temples and shrines. It is also famous for its beautiful culture of weaving, tea, food, fashion and Maiko (Geisha).

When I moved to Australia, I realised there were lack of decent Japanese fashion accessories. I noticed there were many "Japanese style" products around but not all of them were made in Japan.

So I started buying Japanese style fashion accessories for myself every time I went back to Japan and received lots of compliments from friends in Australia. That was when I decided that I wanted to run a business to offer truly made in Japan.

I import or hand pick my products only from Kyoto. My specialty is products made of Nishijin silk. It is a kind of silk which was originated about 1200 years ago. It's recognised as one of the most valuable silk in the world. (For instance, same as silk from Lyon France and Milan in Italy). Normally it's used in Kimono and obi but recently it is used in fashion accessories.

I would like to increase awareness of beautiful Japanese style fashion accessories and extend the possibility of Nishijin weaving. (more)
