About

Sharing the song of the earth through creative practice.

The Cooroora Institute hosts skills-based workshops across a range of art and craft media including wood, metal, ceramics, leather, textiles, printmaking, sculpture, weaving, and writing.

We host masterclasses with exceptional artists and craftspeople.

Our library has extensive collections of art, architectural and social history, design, furniture making, ceramics, environmental history, environmental philosophy and nature writing.

The Cooroora Institute hosts around four artist residencies per year and these need to be generally booked around 6 months ahead.

Residencies are open to any artist (craftsperson, painter, sculptor, writer, musician, dancer, actor) who makes their living from sales of their art, and are interested in further developing work around art, environment, craft, place, soundscapes, performance, and nature.

The Mudlark Pottery at the Cooroora Institute is equipped with a wood fired kiln designed by Stephen Roberts, a large capacity electric kiln, slab roller, pug mill and a number of wheels.

The Cooroora Institute opens their studios to the public every Sunday afternoon from 1pm to 5pm, excepting January. Visitors can tour the studios, meet the artists and artists in residence, view works in progress and completed works in the mini-gallery, and get information about forthcoming classes, workshops and events. Cooroora Institute students can continue work on projects, subject to studio availability, and access the reference library. Tea and espresso coffee is available for purchase.

Our furniture, woodwork and sculpture workshop is equipped with high quality tools from Festool, Elu etc, and our machinery is industrial scale - Felder panel saw, Wadkin jointer, 36 inch bandsaw, Hammer spiral head thicknesser, spindle moulder, mortisers, overhead routers, etc)

Forthcoming events and are advertised through our mailing list, on Facebook, and on our calendar page.
