About

With over 20 years of structural analysis experience in the aircraft industry on new and existing civil or military platforms, CDG can assist you with structural analysis tasks, independent review and notes of completed analyses or simply with building and calibrating new finite element models which can be easily interrogated or modified and adapted to other similar configurations.

CDG will work with your team to understand your goals and your requirements first. Once we understand what you are trying to accomplish we will gather from you the necessary data such as CAD models, physical test and materials data and relevant procedural information when the analysis or the simulations require the use of company specific methods. Sometimes before developing and running the model for you it may be required to establish simplification assumptions, identification or customisation of numerical algorithms or correlating models to test.

Once developed the models can be run and the results post processed and interpreted by yourself or streamlined and customised to your requirements by CDG.

Areas where CDG can assist include:

•Loads Development:

- Formulation of external load fields in tabular or analytical format for incorporation into finite element models (eg. aerodynamic or hydrostatic pressures, inertial and gyroscopic, friction);

- Description, mapping and quantification of the internal loads developed during operation in parts and connectors for structurally stable, intermediate or unstable conditions;

- Post processing and reduction of results for tests of mechanical nature.;

- Particularisation of standardised loading requirements (eg. airworthiness regulations, ASTM testing regulations) to specific prototypes for preliminary numerical simulations

•FEA based contact analysis for assembly modelling, plastic forming or for tracking the interaction of multiple bodies after contact occurs including relative sliding with or without friction effects. Material behavior can be elastic or elasto-plastic with isotropic or kinematic work hardening. For composite materials, determination or inter-laminar sliding and separation parameters at specific locations.

•Preliminary sizing;

•Bottom up hand meshing with clear rules for id's of nodes, elements, properties etc. generated firstly as Nastran data decks;

•External FEA model verification and provision of reports (Nastran or Strand7 data decks);

•Data processing for loads, displacements, stress/strain;

•Fatigue strength evaluations and possibly damage tolerance analysis (Afgrow);

•Development and substantiation of concessions and repairs for primary or secondary aircraft structures;

•Detailed part analysis and sizing with natural flow of calculations in Mathcad or in Excel using behind the scene VBA subroutines.
