I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS SALON AGAIN In August last year I received a $40 gift voucher from my sister. Before I had a chance to use it she was diagnosed in September with Breast Cancer, and has since had a mastectomy, 6 months of chemotherapy and is now currently having radiation. My mother was then diagnosed in April with inoperable small cell lung cancer and is currently in hospital at the moment after complications from her chemo and radiation treatment which she is half way through. With helping care for both my sister and mother I hadn't given the voucher a second thought until my sister reminded me of it this week, so I made a point of grabbing it to book in for a manicure/pedicure before the 12 months was up. However I discovered that the voucher was only valid for 6 months and had expired. Now I know they are not obligated to redeem an expired voucher, but it can be up to the stores discretion and in these circumstances I felt there might have been a little compassion shown. When I phoned I explained my situation to be told that I couldn't use the voucher as it had expired. After pleading my case, they agreed to redeem only half the amount on the voucher but I was lectured on how they had a business to run. After going in and redeeming the voucher for a $20 manicure I was waiting for my nails to dry when one of the women approached me to tell me again that they had a business to run and I shouldn't have been able to use the voucher. I told her that it would have been nice under the circumstances if they could have let me use the full voucher and she walked away, spoke to another woman working there in their own language and the next thing I know, that woman is saying loudly across the store in front of other customers that they let me use the expired voucher yet I am still not happy. I felt embarressed and humiliated. I will NEVER set foot into that store again. They have kept $20 of the money my sister spent on that voucher because 'they are running a business', but essentially they have lost a LOT of business as I, my sister and all my friends who have ever gone into that salon will be taking our business elsewhere in future.
