We sought help with an insurance matter from this legal firm who advertise as insurance experts. $6600 of our retainer monies were used up on busy work such as reading and re-reading the same information in our file apparently in order to pad out and run up our bill, they failed to progress our matter and achieved nothing more than the writing of a letter, just the one-and charging us the massive sum of $6600.00 for doing so. I was yelled at down the phone on one occasion and it was demanded of me "Do you know how difficult my job is?" Just the once, it's not a major issue, but it did happen. Our entire file was released to a third party cost assessor even if we'd only requested an itemised bill, not a cost assessment. The advice we received was often contradictory, our solicitor's behaviour was inconsistent and his enthusiasm for our matter distinctly blow-hot blow in it's nature. The solicitor initially rated our chances of success as 'good', later downgrading our prospects to 'reasonable', then down to 'only fair', and eventually 'poor'. No new information had come to light that might have reasonably caused him to revise his opinion downwards, and when pressed, he could not explain the reasons for his newfound pessimism. We tried our best to have him explain why our chances of success were going steadily downwards in his opinion and we have tried to get him to tell us the best way to go ahead but these efforts were all in vain. We begged and pleaded with him to answer our questions and assist us in salvaging our professional relationship. At this stage he began to repeatedly goad us into firing him, which we eventually had to do. At the time when we had to dispense with their services and request our retainer back, the firm presented us with a large invoice for services rendered in the region of $4500. A very unpleasant consumer experience.
