We are South Australia's largest bird and cage supplier, specialising in exotic and common birds. We have over 40 years of experience and are known for our cleanliness.

The Bird Place (Emblem Aviaries) opened over 40 years ago, and was run by Bob Turner and his son John. John has been running the business for the last 15 years. Everyone is surprised at how large the premise is as it is located at the back of a house. As you enter we have a variety of large patio cages which vary from macaw down to budgies. Outside we then have our aviaries with a wide range of birds from finches and canaries to black cockatoos. We also have an area for bird accessories such as bird hammocks, seed containers and nest boxes. From there you move onto our bird room where you will meet our friendly staff who will be able to assist you with a purchase or some friendly advice.
We are situated at 95 Holbrooks Road Flinders Park. You will see our sign out the front and we are open 7 days a week. Our business is wholesale and retail. We purchase a variety of birds from breeders and dealers throughout Australia.

This place has been somewhere I have wanted to visit for some time. We took the time today to go. When we got there and walked through the cages and shop area where the accessories are for sale we did not see anyone, no staff members. Walking on through and seeing some lovely birds still no one was around. We went into the bird room where the floor was covered in old bird seed and the cages where far from clean. In the middle of the room was a cage with 3 Eclectus parrots, 2 males and 1 female. As we have a 7 y/o male Eckkie at home I was very interested with getting a friend for my boy. He told us that they were $850 each but if we were serious he could do a good price for us, stating that these birds where hand raised and the lady who raised them fed them pasta blablabla. Anyway he tried to sell us the female and when I said no, I would want another male, he said good idea as the females arent even worth $100. He was sorry he got her and was going to put her in an avairy. As we chatted on he said I could put my hand in to the cage as it was open and the birds freaked out, he went on ahead and grabbed at both the males and brought them out saying they are very tame and they have never been freaked like this before. The one he got me to hold almost took the top of my finger after him saying that oh no they dont bite, but one even bit him and he got a net to scoop it up! He said putting the female in with the males had been a bad idea, then he said the way I held the bird was incorrect and it was my fault they freaked out. Then he changed his mind saying it was the colour of my top that was the problem. To be honest at this point we left with absolutely no intension to return to this place. How disappointing it was, a complete lie that the birds where hand raised as they would not have freaked out like that with human interaction, and trying every excuse to blame other things but the fact that he lied. I would stay away from this business.

We travelled from the hills to choose some canaries on Monday. I had read this site and felt sure we would find good birds to choose from and the site told me that the staff would go out of their way to help old and new customers. We have bought bird here a long time ago. When we arrived the gentle man present was cleaning the cages in the bird room. He asked if he could help us, I explained that we were looking for canaries. He pointed to 2 cages - one each of red factor and yellow canaries and said that they were all cocks. All the rest were in long flight aviaries outside. We perused the cock birds and went outside to see if we could match up pairs. The depth of the flights was too deep to see individual birds - apart from two who flew towards us several times, a good sign that they were friendly but we had no way of knowing their sex. Eventually feeling frustrated we went back inside and explained that we couldn't see them and not knowing their sex we were unable to select pairs. The gentleman didn't offer any help and continued cleaning his cages. I observed that Monday was obviously his cleaning day. We took our leave explaining that we would have to return another day perhaps (as he obviously wasn't willing to give any help then). We were anxious to stock a renewed aviary while the weather was warm and went to our local bird dealer(who was also cleaning cages) but stopped and listened to what we were looking for. He caught the birds - checking their sex that we were interested in, put them in individual cages so that we could check them carefully. We ended up choosing the birds we liked and left our contact details so that we could be rung when others that fitted our description came in, We will be spending quite a large amount when we start restocking finches. I wonder whether Emblem Aviaries would have been more helpful if we were purchasing very expensive parrots at that time? Their area was very clean.
