Having purchased 2 goldfish from awesome aquariums that had swollen bellies and were floating on the top of the tank I extensively researched their symptoms and discovered they had swim bladder disease. I tried treating them with every suggested method I could find to try to cure them but although they managed to hang in there for some months, bloated and floating, one at a time they unfortunately did succumb to the swim bladder disease. After the first one died I had bought a redcap goldfish which is still doing fine, then when the 2nd one died I initially had thought it may be something I was doing wrong so I emptied my tank and, after talking to the very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful gentleman at "all things slimy", I added snail sand to the tank to ensure a correct ph level and transferred the 3rd goldfish I had purchased from Awesome Aquariums (AA) into my tank. A week later, I had the water tested and was told everything was absolutely fine. I then purchased a 4th redcap from Awesome Aquariums and as I placed him into the tank, I noticed he also had a swollen belly and again was floating on the bottom, then later that day, on the top of the tank. The very next day I phoned AA and he told me it was because he had just fed them and to give it a couple of days and it should be right. Within 2 days the fish was dead! After getting a replacement redcap from him, I again noticed it had a swollen belly when putting it into the tank. At this point I was starting to feel quite distressed at seeing now 4 of the 5 fish I had received from AA suffer from swim bladder disease, but I hoped for the best thinking surely a 4th fish couldn't have the same problem. But sure enough, it floated on the bottom of the tank and a week later we returned with a near dead goldfish with the hope that being a loyal customer and, having 4 out of 5 fish obtained from AA with swim bladder, he would happily replace this one fish. To our surprise, we were told it was our fault and that his fish were fine, at which point we pointed to a goldfish that had a swollen belly and was floating upside down in his tank and was told that it was because "he had just fed them!!" He refused to even replace the fish and due to his worsening aggressive demeanour we left empty handed. I purchased "all" my fish, fishweed etc. from this one shop over some time despite the repeated problems I now realise were not my fault, so it's hard to understand his behaviour to a once loyal, friendly repeat customer that he has now lost for good for the sake of a goldfish!!
