What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a unique hands on therapy, developed in Geelong by Tom Bowen, and now taught world wide. The practitioner follows a sequence of gentle rolling moves using thumbs and fingers on specific areas of the body, rolling over muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. The relaxing moves and rest periods between the moves allows the body to re-set, repair and re balance itself to the best of its ability, with the body continuing to balance itself over the next 3-4 days. The technique is safe to use on newborns through to the elderly, and can be done easily through soft clothing. Treatments generally last 60 minutes and are done on a massage table.
/>How Does It Work?
The gentle moves create energy surges which send electrical impulses to the brain via the Nervous System, the brain in return then tells the body how to respond. For example, if you accidentally touch a hot stove, the nerves in you skin shoot a message of pain to your brain. The brain then sends a message back telling the muscles in your hand to pull away. In the case of Bowen Therapy, the moves signal the brain and in return, messages are sent to the various parts of the body to relax, creating an opportunity for the body to RE SET itself. This results in an immediate response of muscle relaxation and pain reduction in the body. Whilst all of this is taking place the therapist leaves the room allowing greater time in those moments for the body to re calibrate itself, offering the body the opportunity to restore itself back to homeostasis a balanced preferred way of being.

About Lisa Coulson
I have been doing Bowen Therapy for the last 25 years. Prior to that my background was in Massage Therapy, however, after experiencing a back injury myself, I found that many treatments in many different well established modalities including massage, were unable to give me much relief. It was then that a friend suggested Bowen Therapy. After just the first treatment there was more ease in my body and less pain in my back. I was so impressed with the outcome that I chose to study Bowen Therapy and become a fully qualified therapist. I have been using it ever since, and my clients hold their own testimony to the benefits they themselves have received. I have gone onto study Pranic Healing, Reiki, Hypnotherapy, Holistic Counceling and some Mindfulness to enhance myself and pass on the benefits to others. I am thrilled that Bowen Therapy is now being more widely recognised by the Medical Profession as providing much relief for many patients, over a large range of issues ranging from acute to chronic conditions. And the fact that Bowen Therapy is now being covered by a multitude of Health Funds adds to its validity. (more)
