Caravan or recreational vehicle (RV) is the usual term for a vehicle that is equipped with living space and amenities found in a home. It is often defined as a camper with living quarters. The caravan first started in the United States in the late 1920s and 1930s and soon spread throughout the world. 

In Australia, the earliest known caravan was built in 1929 and is now located in the Goolwa Museum. It is recognized by the National Museum of Australia and the Australian National Motor Museum as being the first motorized caravan in Australia.

• Before choosing a caravan, know first what you want it for. The purpose of the caravan will determine its size and configuration, layout and extent of its fittings.
• The size of the caravan will influence towing performance. Modern day caravans are lighter than older models.
• Consider the place where you are going. Knowing where you are bringing your caravan would prompt you to properly prepare the amenities and facilities you will need on your mobile home.
• Check all parts and places of the caravan to ensure that there are no damages or weak spots that might be detrimental on your trip.
