Trucks are vehicles designed to transport cargo that may range from furniture to heavy machinery, dirt to consumable goods. These vehicles vary greatly in size, power and configuration and can tow other vehicle as well. Companies buy new trucks for their construction and transport needs.

Buses are elongated vehicle designed to carry passengers from one location to another. Buses basically have a single design, but vary in the number of passengers they can carry. They may range from small groups to as much as 200 passengers. Companies buy new buses to complement their current fleet or to serve as private transport for a particular group of people.

The Motor Trades Association of Australia is the peak body that represents the interests of the retail, service and repair sector of the country's automotive industry which employs over 308,000 people. It is a federation of various states and territory motor trades associations as well as the Australian Automobile Dealers Association. It also represents a number of Affiliated Trade Associations that represent particular subsectors of the industry, ranging from vehicle repair to parts and recycling.

What you need to know when buying a new truck

  • Although each truck manufacturer has its own name for cab designs, there are generally three basic body styles: regular cab, extended cab and crew cab.
  • Compact trucks are some of the cheapest in the market; full-size trucks are more expensive.
  • Trucks usually have four- to eight-cylinder engines, but most use V8 andV10 engines that return marginal fuel-economy numbers at best.
  • Most trucks offer basic equipment such as airbags and seatbelts. Trucks are also being installed with side curtain airbags and stability control.
  • Most trucks offer both manual and automatic transmissions as well as traction-aiding devices.
  • Regular full-size trucks can tow as much as 12,000 pounds with certain engines and suspension configurations, but heavy-duty trucks can tow twice as much.
  • Compact trucks are relatively fuel-efficient and cheaper to insure. However, insurance costs may increase as more accessories are added to the vehicle.

What you need to know when buying a new bus

  • Consider the number of passengers that will be riding the bus. Your bus should be large enough to transport a good size group but small enough to be easily maneuvered.
  • Buses can very expensive to repair. That is why it is better to buy a bus that is a bit pricey but in very good condition than cheaper buses that will need repairs equal the initial price.
  • Diesel engines are known to perform longer and better than gasoline engines. However, the cost of replacing a diesel engine is twice the cost of gasoline engines.
  • Manual transmissions are found in larger commercial passenger buses while small shuttles and midsize buses usually have automatic transmissions.
  • Air conditioning makes the trip comfortable for passengers. It is recommended to have a professional technician inspect and repair the air conditioning equipment found in buses.
