As an osteopath, Samantha's passion for health and wellbeing have led her to develop a strong focus on finding the cause not just getting rid of the pain. An interest in women's health, pregnancy and children have allowed Samantha to develop her skills in these areas.
Samantha's treating style follows a primarily bio-mechanical model where particular techniques are utilised specific to the situation with great specificity allowing for safe and gentle applications.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that addresses the entirety of the body's structures, such as muscles, nerves, joints, bones, lymphatic system, vascular system and the various connective tissues. It is based on a unique underlying treatment philosophy which is what sets Osteopathic treatment apart from other forms of manual therapy. Osteopathic treatment is a scientifically validated form of treatment, and is recognised by the World Health Organisation and various international medical journals.
The Osteopathic Philosophy
1. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated
2. The body is a single dynamic unit of function; mind, body and spirit.
3. The body is capable of self-repair, self- healing and health maintenance.
4. Rational treatment is based on the employment of above 3 principles.
Evaluation & Treatment
The techniques that your Osteopath chooses to use during your consultation are based upon your presentation, information from your medical history that may affect the safety of the techniques (eg DVT or osteoporosis), treatment objectives and your consent. The techniques include, but are not limited to: MET, joint articulation, HVLA (spinal manipulation), soft tissue massage, visceral release, cranial osteopathy, BLT, counter-strain, core strengthening and rehabilitative exercises.
Osteopaths are required to complete 5 years of university training consisting of a 3 year Bachelors degree and a 2 year Masters degree. Once completed, your Osteopath is a statutorily registered practitioner.
Most osteopaths do not see themselves as 'alternative' to medicine, but as a compliment to it. In this way patients can be assured of receiving safe and thorough treatment.
