We assess and treat children and adults for communication problems:
o To improve pronunciation and/or speech intelligibility, for both native and non-native speakers of English;
o To correct a lisp and other articulatory errors;
o To improve language skills;
o To develop early literacy skills;
o For speech/sound intervention;
o To communicate socially with others;
o To learn to modify vocal use and undergo voice therapy;
o For stuttering intervention;
o To correct an improper swallowing pattern; and,
o To learn correct chewing techniques.
Additionally, we offer assessment of and treatment for Orofacial Myofunctional (OM) disorders to encourage proper growth of the face and mouth, which can be the result of improper development. A number of functional issues may arise from an OM disorder, including tongue thrust (an immature swallowing pattern), incorrect tongue rest positioning, tongue tie, mouth breathing, crooked teeth and poor posture. This can, in turn, have an effect on speech.
