One in every three homes will be attacked by termites (white ants) at some stage in it's life. Termites can cause property damage which could result in very large repair bills. The damage is not always visible to the naked eye, as they eat through the timber from the inside. They live and work in colonies where a queen can produce thousands of eggs a day and live for up to 30 years.
Don't get caught out by a termite invasion call us today to discuss your best treatment.
Southern Suburbs Pest Control offer a choice of inspections, all to AS 3360-2000 standards.
Pre-purchase Termite Inspection
Pre-purchase timber pest inspections are carried out to comply with the Australian Standards AS 4349.3-2010. These consist of a technician reporting on any current timber pest activity which may lead to future timber pest attacks on the property which you may be purchasing. Please contact one of our advisors to book an inspection.
Standard Termite Inspection
Standard termite inspections are recommended to be carried out at least once every 12 months. If there is current termite activity then the recommendation is every 3, 6 or 12 months depending on the severity. The report is confined to disclosure of the discovery or non-discovery of termites present on the day of inspection and the identification of possible problem areas that could be a point of attack. Standard inspection include areas of the property that are accessible, such as:
- interior/exterior of the building
- roof void / sub floor
- tree stumps / garden timber
Chemicals which kill termites are called termicides. A termicide is applied to the soil under the slab and around the footings, pipes and other structures of the building to create a barrier which will kill the termites on contact.
Termite baits or baiting systems are a very effective way to kill off the colonies that are causing the problem. The bait is a cellulose food which is treated with a termicide. The termites are attracted to the food and take it back to the colony. Over time the size of the colony will reduce.
