I support the transition to parenthood with the focus on supporting women make choices and have options with breastfeeding. The story behind the philosophy...
My philosophy as a lactation consultant comes from my breastfeeding experience with our son, my second child. For a number of reasons, including the fact I was trying to juggle too many roles, I struggled with insufficient milk supply. The result was, that I feed my son almost continuously night and day and faced daily ongoing pressure from family (not my husband) to wean, something I really didn't want to do.
I finally had to succumb at three months and put him onto formula, (something my daughter had never had) and felt a complete failure as a mother. There was no lactation consultant I knew to ask for help so was unaware of the number of options I could have tried that would have allowed me to continue breastfeeding.
With this very much in mind I don't want women to miss out as I did but rather be given the opportunities to try the numerous options that are available to help women breastfeed their babies as they are able to. (more)
