About Sydney Mechanics' School Of Arts

The Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts is a vibrant community of people making a vital contribution to the social, artistic & cultural life of Sydney since 1833.

Established initially as an educational organisation for working people, the SMSA's current activities have built on this tradition of love of learning and community. Our guiding principle is "Making a Difference through Learning".

EVENTS PROGRAM
SMSA runs a varied program of talks, seminars and other events. Our TUESDAY TALKABOUT lunchtime lecture series brings together a group of eclectic speakers talking about art, travel and Sydney's unique history. As with many of our events TALKABOUTS are free and open to the public.

LIBRARY
Our members’ Library is the oldest lending library in Australia – but don’t let that fool you. Our collection spans over 32,000 of the best fiction books, specialising in Crime and Mystery. Join today to borrow.
