Unaffected by fashion or trends, our homes and interiors are a creative yet sensitive integration between building and landscape, at one with the environment; they maximise light, airflow and space; and have empathy with their siting and landscape. We link inside and out, breathe new life into existing buildings and invest them with character. Our designs are enriched by the beauty of natural materials and other cultures and whilst each space must be honest to its function, it should not be limited by it.

Over the years we have quietly built a reputation for applying environmentally sensitive and low carbon footprint sustainability principles to our buildings. These principals coupled with design excellence from decades of experience, has won the practice architectural awards in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011.

Emile has been in practice as a registered architect since 1970, building his first house on Bilgola Plateau, a house which even then set a benchmark for sustainability - sited and orientated correctly and insulated properly, the house stands today, unaltered after almost 40 years, a testament to appropriate design. He has direct experience in a huge range of building types varying from 30+ storey high rise apartments and 5 star hotels, low and medium density housing including aged care housing and facilities, through all types of commercial and industrial, pharmaceutical and laboratory work, to subdivision and garden design. Since 1998, Jansen Design & Architecture has been engaged as local architects on more than 23 completed projects, including the renovation and remediation of a block of flats in central Avalon; renovations and additions to many homes and the building of half a dozen new houses throughout the Northern Beaches from Queenscliff to Palm Beach.
