KIDS Program

Beenleigh Karate offers a special childrens program, Torakai Cubs, designed to stimulate and hold their interest while progressing their skills in a supportive and safe environment. The instructors at Torakai Dojos hold coaching qualifications issued by the Australian Sports Commission, after succesfully completing the nationally recognised AASC junior coaching program.

We recognise that every child is special and individual. Torakai Cubs classes build your child's confidence, improves their self discipline and respect for others while advancing them through the grades at their own individual pace in an expertly designed junior program based on rewards and recognition.

The program keeps the child's interest with martial arts based games and action-packed activities designed to build up their coordination and motor skills and improve their self confidence while at the same time laying down strong foundations for their karate training and progress. Meanwhile the children just think they're having fun!

Self defence skills - simple but highly effective moves from all Martial Arts styles

Self defence against weapons attacks, including knives and guns
Channel your inner Chi to overcome even multiple attackers
Progress to more advanced Self Defence moves, holds, grapples, controls
Kata - elegant but deadly patterns of movements, and their applications to combat

Master the skills of traditional weapons

Sai (Metal three pronged weapon) - Sai Kata (patterns) and combat applications
Bo (wooden staff) - Bo Kata (patterns), Bo Randories (fighting drills), self defence applications
Sai versus Bo - fighting sequences, self defences

Competition and Tournament

Students can choose to train towards participation in competitions. This is optional, not everyone is interested in competing but it does extend your training and provides an important arena for you to test your progress, both physical and mental, in a safe and regulated environment.

Many Torakai students (from as young as 5 yrs old) enter competitions and their success has been phenomenal, a testament not only to their own stength of character and solid training, but also to the high standard of instruction they receive from their Masters at Torakai Karate.
Shihan Aylward is a qualified and experienced "A" Grade, National level Koshiki referee.
