About

The hotel was built as the �Advance Hotel� in 1880 and was immediately leased by its owner, Margaret Butler, to the Hotel�s first licencee, Richard Palmer. After 4 years of trading Margaret Butler took over as licensee and in 1884 changed the sign to the Royal Hotel, with it being unchanged ever since.
