About

Chinese Medicine is an ancient system of medicine that has been developed and refined over thousands of years. It is safe to use in conjunction with most western therapies. Often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat a wide range of illnesses. Treatment methods involve acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha and dietary and lifestyle advice.

Most people tend to think of acupuncture in relation with musculo-skeletal injuries. Although fantastic at treating this, many are surprised at just the range of conditions TCM is useful for. Acupuncture can be used in the treatment of acute injuries, chronic internal disease and mental/emotional problems. It is also helpful as a preventative measure to strengthen the constitution. Chinese herbal formulas may also be prescribed where this would augment the Acupuncture treatment.

As a holistic therapy, TCM improves overall well being as well as treating specific symptoms such as:

Pain - muscle tension, sports injuries, headaches/migraines, neck/back and shoulder pain, sciatica, arthritis
Gynaecological and reproductive health - menstrual pain and disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome - PCOS, endometriosis, PMS, infertility, problems during pregnancy such as morning sickness, pre conception and post natal care, menopausal symptoms
Urogenital conditions â€" cystitis, decreased sexual function, prostatitis
Cardiovascular disorders â€" high/low blood pressure, poor circulation, palpitations
Digestive disorders â€" diarrhoea and constipation, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), poor appetite,
Respiratory conditions - asthma, hay fever, cold and flu, sinus problems
Skin conditions - eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, rashes, acne
Psychological disorders - Stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia
And many more!

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into particular locations on the body. There are 14 major channels of energy flowing through the body, and disease and illness is seen as a disruption of this flowing energy. The needles aim to restore the natural flow of energy, and thus, restore health and promote wellbeing.
Many people are surprised about just how relaxing an acupuncture treatment is. The most common feedback is a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing after a treatment. The needles are very fine, and nothing like hypodermic needles that doctorâ€TMs use, so there is rarely pain felt with the treatment. Acupuncture is recognized by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a safe and effective form of treatment for many different illnesses and problems.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicineâ€TMs origins can be traced back thousands of years, making it one of the oldest standing healthcare systems in the world. There are over 400 substances in the Chinese herbal material medica ranging from plant, animal and mineral extract. A typical formula, on average includes between 3-15 different types of herbs specifically chosen for their therapeutic benefit, the way they react individually and in unison with the other chosen herbs in the formula. The herbs and dosages are tailored to suit your specific condition and presentation.
Belinda generally prescribes herbs in granulated form, which are quick to prepare, convenient and easy to use. The granules are dissolved in warm water (like instant coffee) and generally taken morning and night.

Massage

Belinda uses a form of Chinese massage called Tuina. Through the application of massage, manipulation and acupressure techniques, tuina aims to establish a more harmonious flow of energy through the system of channels and collatorals, allowing the body to naturally heal itself. It can promote general heath and well being and you will feel great after a treatment!
