About
Australia is one of the few mega diverse countries in the world and over 80% of our flowering plants, mammals and reptiles are only found here. Sadly we have the worst mammal extinction rate in the world with 18 species becoming extinct in the past 200 years. We have more threatened reptile species than any other country in the world and almost 15% of our bird species are threatened with extinction. Our goal at Eco-nomads is to encourage and enable those who travel this country to do so not only in a way that does no damage but in ways that can help the land to recover. There remain some pristine areas in the country and they should be left that way, there are other areas that have had little impact from humans, such places are often the destination of travelers wishing to experience the original nature of Australia. Sadly this desire could cause the demise of the area of attraction itself and this risk needs to be addressed now.
Travelers to these areas need to understand the threats and how to avoid them, and also to be able to identify problems, report them and ultimately assist in the restoration of the areas.
Being keen campers and conservationists my daughter and I have established “Eco-nomads” in an attempt to bridge the gap between desirable and possible. We will link to what resources we can find, create some ourselves and ask other nomads to help out.
