About
The use of collaborative communication, based on the developing empathy when focusing on the needs and feelings of others, has major benefits both in personal and business settings. It eliminates the use of shame, fear, judgement and evaluation when communicating with others. This brings about an authentic connection. When others do not hear demands and manipulation in your communication with you they are better able to respond compassionately. Most human beings are willing to give to others naturally, it is our nature. Just look at how humans behave after a crises such as an earthquake or accident involving many humans. We respond because we care about others. Our language is often the only thing that gets in the way of natural giving and compassion between each other. Collaborative communication is effective because it does not seek to advise, educate, storytell, override, fix, coerce. It looks instead to the universal needs that we are all trying to meet in our day to day lives. We do not find conflict at the level of needs, we find conflict at the strategies we engage to meet our needs. This is where behaviours cause the conflict. Once we understand that each and every one of us seeks to meet universal needs, it brings an awareness and understanding of why another may be behaving in the way they do. Once we continue to seek clarity around the needs they are wishing to meet, we can seek ways to have both our needs met in any given situation and usually find compromise where both parties have satisfaction with the outcome. Some of the benefits of this work include having more empathy for yourself as well as others which leads to improved relationships and understanding of another's behaviour. It is enormously empowering not to communicate through fear, shame and guilt and to stand in your own wellbeing and confidence. This work makes us poor slaves and underlings in a simple, no nonsense way, not through pride and ego. In fact the work helps us get in touch with our authentic self and find more peace and contentment. At an organisation level the benefits are profound. On an individual basis it means more work enjoyment and peak personal experiences. It leads naturally to improved team participation and output, less absenteeism, more productivity, more time efficiency and harmony. On the grand scale of corporate goals it leads to improved customer service, and profit with people not over people. Corporate culture is improved due to the impact on flattening the way management operates and actively seeks collaboration. Organisations are relatively new entities having been around only some 200 years and they are also in the process of evolving. Each organisation that trains their management and staff in the use of Collaborative Communication is in the running to be more profitable and harmonious with improved customer satisfaction.
