About

Kilvington is a Coeducational K-12 school with a tradition of providing educational excellence to local and international students. By challenging students to achieve within a caring environment, Kilvington fosters resilient individuals of exceptional depth, strength, integrity and character.

Academic excellence

Kilvington's reputation for excellence is evident in our students' superb results. With over 24% of students in the top 5% of the state in 2010, Kilvington is consistently recognised as one of Victoria's outstanding schools.

There are many academic success stories at Kilvington. For example, Sarah Holper received the maximum possible ENTER score of 99.95 in 2010, while two other students scored over 99. This impressive academic record is made possible by Kilvington's enthusiastic students, dedicated teachers and innovative curriculum.

Curriculum

We believe that a broad, diverse curriculum with a wide selection of subjects encourages students to strive for excellence, independence, personal growth and global engagement. To realise these goals, teachers work conscientiously to match teaching styles and methods with students' individual requirements.

Kilvington's curriculum contains many innovative components. The Robotics Engineering thread, for example, allows students to design and program robotic models. The Innovative Projects module, which includes Biographical and Community Writing, LOTE Cultural Afternoons, enables students to develop a diverse range of skills.

Parents can regularly access their children?s results with "Continuous Online Reporting" (COR), a system which increases responsiveness to individual learning needs.

Cocurricular activities

Kilvington's challenging, diverse cocurricular program is an essential part of each student's development. Students extend their personal horizons beyond the scope of the traditional curriculum by participating in visual arts, organised sport, community work and camping trips.

Several school productions are performed each year, and those passionate about drama, music or stagecraft are encouraged to get involved. In 2010, the Junior School delighted parents with Across the Story Bridge and Seussical: the Musical, while older students performed the spectacular Jesus Christ Superstar.

Kilvingtons superb Music Centre provides students with the resources to sculpt their musical abilities. The school features a number of highly-regarded groups, including the Madrigals, Kilvington's award-winning choral ensemble. Regular Ballarat Eisteddfod winners, the Madrigals performed at China's Chengdu Music Festival in 2007 and Hobart's Festival of Voices in 2009.

Our Year 9 programs are another major highlight. Make a Difference Day, for example, gives students the chance to contribute practically and financially to their community by participating in fundraising activities. Students have knitted blankets for the Red Cross in previous years, among many other valuable initiatives.

Pastoral care

Kilvington is renowned for its extremely comprehensive Pastoral Care system. While we understand the importance of individual independence, we also recognise the need for guidance and supervision. Kilvington's Pastoral Care system has therefore been carefully designed to match students' needs and abilities at each stage of their education. Our teachers are experienced in dealing with children and young adults. Before and after school care programs are also available for students aged four and over.
