About
If you experience pain, limited movement or lack of strength, myotherapy could be the key to improving your health.
Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction affecting human movement. A myotherapist takes into account all aspects of health and well being to treat patients from a holistic perspective, including not only physical, but psychological and occupational aspects of the individual’s lifestyle.
Treatment involves a combination of deep tissue or remedial massage with trigger point therapy and soft tissue manipulation techniques, joint mobilisation, myofascial dry needling, cupping, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), thermal therapy (heat and cold), stretching and corrective exercise.
Torquay myotherapist Amy Vogels has more than eight years of practical experience and owns In Tune Myotherapy, located in Surf City Plaza. She is a member of the Institute of Registered Myotherapists of Australia – the profession’s leading association – and said she finds it rewarding to see the improvement in her patients health.
“I am a huge advocate for myotherapy as it is a great natural approach to treat many specific acute conditions. Helping people to decrease, or often even eliminate local or referred pain including neck and lower back pain, headaches and migraines is incredibly satisfying and allowing people to achieve their personal best in sports and exercise feels great”.
Myotherapy plays an important role for many patients as an individual modality of treatment, however, it is often effectively used in conjunction with treatment provided by both medical and other allied-health practitioners such as physiotherapy, podiatry, chiropractic and osteopathy.
Ms Vogels said when the correct treatment combination is prescribed patients can begin to live pain-free.
“It can also be a very effective way to manage and maintain more chronic and ongoing pain complaints, including general tension and tightness that most of us develop at times, whether from work, stress or exercise.
“I think it’s important for people to understand that they often do not need to live with daily pain.”
Ms Vogels works within the Coastal Balance clinic, allowing her to work alongside physiotherapist Cindy Parks. Coastal Balance Physiotherapy is located at Shop 11, Surf City Shopping Centre, Torquay.
