My initial visit to Vince, the optometrist, was to request to have my multifocal, high index, frame's arms adjusted. Unasked, Vince proceeded to show me the microscopic cracks on the lens coating with an eyeglass. Then, he applied heat to the bridge to angle the frame, which resulted in the fogging and prominent cracking of the lenses' coating, which I didn't detect until I arrived home (as I always wear prescription sunnies outdoors while driving). Hence, the frame's lenses were ruined as I could no longer see through them (I was able to quite clearly prior to this visit). While his assistant initially denied any fault, Vince agreed to have the lenses replaced for free (with the exact prescription). As an act of faith, I had my eyes tested the following day for new lenses for a pair of sunglasses. I collected my frame (with the damaged lenses replaced) today and realised that the lenses that Vince replaced my high index lenses with were, in fact, normal multifocal lenses that appeared quite thick on the edges (as the frame is large). Now, I'm faced with wearing a heavy frame that leaves a prominent red line indent on either side of my nose. As I have had three major nose reconstructions on my bridge by plastic surgeons, this now, much heavier, frame may lead to further damage, necessitating possible surgery in the future. I have high index lenses for this reason (light weight), and for me to be betrayed like this borders on fraud. The moral of the story is, had this optometrist complied with my specific request ONLY in the first place, the damage would not have occurred to my lenses. All I had asked for was for the frame's arms to be adjusted, nothing else!
