About

We pride ourselves on our patient-centered care and integrated, holistic approach to injury management and wellness with the aim to allow the body regain and maintain optimum health. Our practitioners are dedicated, experienced and university trained health professionals working with individuals of all ages from newborns to the elderly and everyone in between. Our unique location next door to the Alstonville swimming pool and the local fitness centre also allows us to work closely alongside swimming coaches and personal trainers to enhance recovery and rehabilitation.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on the connection between the body’s structures and how it functions. Osteopaths do this by focusing on how the bones, joints, muscles and nerves (neuromuscular system) interact together, whilst ensuring all areas receive adequate circulation, blood flow and lymphatic drainage, to improve your overall health and wellbeing. Osteopaths are required to complete a 5 year university degree to become registered as primary health care practitioners within Australia, specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. This allows your treatment to be covered by health funds, the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Scheme (available through your GP), Workcover and Department of Veteran Affairs.

Some of the conditions we treat include:

Headaches and migraines

Back and neck pain

Respiratory conditions e.g. asthma

Hip and knee pain and injury

Ankle and foot pain and injury

Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain and injury

Digestive conditions e.g. IBS

Sporting injuries

Unsettled babies e.g. colic, poor feeding or sleep disturbances

Pre and post natal care

Occupational problems e.g. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

Pain associated with chronic or acute trauma

Osteopathy or osteopathic treatment uses skilled evaluation, diagnosis and a variety of hands-on techniques ranging from massage, stretching and gentle mobilisation of specific joints and soft tissues.

Osteopathy is suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly and treatment is tailored to the individual and their specific requirements on a case by case basis. This is because different techniques work more effectively for different people depending on their genetics, flexibility, age, type of injury or condition and comfort level.

Health Fund Rebates and Medicare

Osteopathy is covered by most private health funds as well as the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care scheme.

The Medicare program is overseen by your GP who may refer you to an Osteopath for chronic medical conditions (a condition with a duration of three months or more). This program allows a Medicare rebate for up to 5 treatment sessions per calendar year. Please speak to your GP should you require more information.

Private health fund rebates can be claimed on the spot through HICAPS. Simply bring your health fund card along to your treatment and all you will pay is the gap. Follow this LINK for a list of participating health fund providers that will allow you to claim your osteopathic treatment on the spot.
