Kids First Physiotherapy specialises in early intervention for children experiencing difficulties in achieving expected milestones in gross motor skills, posture, balance and coordination. We see children with a variety of issues impacting on their development, such as low muscle tone, coordination difficulties, postural control and balance dysfunction, and sensory motor impairments. These issues may be associated with Developmental Delay, Down Syndrome, Developmental Coordination Difficulty, Cerebral Palsy, visual and/or hearing impairments, or as a result of an acquired brain injury or premature birth. Around 10% of children are now being diagnosed with developmental delay and it is well recognised that these children benefit from early intervention. Gross motor delay can impact on social-emotional, fine motor and cognitive development. We move to learn and learn to move, so movement is vital for a child to allow them to explore their environment, make sense of it and become an active participant in the world around them. It is best practice to provide therapy in a familiar environment and this approach achieves fantastic results for the child. Therapy is incorporated into the daily routine which fits best with busy family lives.
