Mend Psychology provides specialist psychology services to people with common mental health problems, including people living with chronic health conditions (including diabetes and human immunodeficiency virus or HIV).

Dr Janine Clarke, Director of Mend Psychology, is an accomplished speaker, researcher, and clinician, who complements her clinical work at Mend Psychology with a mental health research position at Sydneyâ€TMs Black Dog Institute.

Janine holds a PhD in Psychology (Macquarie University), a Master of Clinical Psychology (UNSW Australia), and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons, Class I; Australian National University). She is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and holds full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PSY0001283637). In addition, Janine has completed post-graduate training in Coaching Psychology (University of Sydney). Over the past 20 years, she has worked in and consulted with a range of educational, hospital, government, industry and community groups on a range of issues relating to the assessment and treatment of common mental health problems in the community, including mental health, well-being and quality of life in people living with diabetes.

Janine has co-authored scientific papers and delivers presentations based on her clinical and research work at international conferences in the fields of mental health, diabetes and online psychotherapy. She appears regularly in the media providing commentary on common mental health problems (including depression, anxiety and stress), mental health in people living with diabetes, and the use of online psychotherapy for treating depression and anxiety. She is psychology consultant to Diabetic Living Magazine, and regularly delivers workshops and presentations to diabetes consumer (including Diabetes NSW) and health care provider groups.

Dr Janine Clarke provides individual psychological therapy to adults dealing with with a range of difficulties, including:

relationship problems;
confidence and self-esteem issues;
anger management;
sleep difficulties;
stress management;
depression and low mood; and
anxiety-related disorders.

Janine has a particular interest in diabetes, and has experience helping people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to deal with a range of issues, including:

adjustment to the diagnosis;
depression and low mood;
diabetes-related fear and anxiety;
diabetes-related distress;
difficulties with self-care;
problems with food and eating; and

Janine uses evidence-based approaches to assessment and treatment including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She provides a comprehensive individualised assessment and works collaboratively with her clients to set treatment goals and construct treatment plans that are highly personal and reflective of the best available scientific evidence.
