About
We pride ourselves on really listening to both parties in the counselling session and to ensure you feel comfortable to discuss your issues, so that we can work on resolving them, right from the first session. The idea is for you to walk out of any session with a plan of things you can do straight away to start healing and rebuilding your relationship.
The state of your relationship has been shown the be the strongest factor dictating your level of self esteem. So the healthier your relationship is, the higher self esteem you will have and vice versa. Women in particular are prone to low self esteem and this is impacted even further when you become a mother. Becoming parents also places a significant strain on couples, because children demand a lot of your time and energy and increase your household daily spending. These issues place further pressure on couples and can result in increased arguments, lack of closeness and intimacy and a loss of fun and friendship within the partnership.
As a trained therapist who has specialised in working with mothers and couples over the past 12 years, the most common issues I see in couples are:
1) Not having sex as often as they would like, or reduced overall intimacy and affection.
2) Finding it hard to have a conversation with the kids always needing attention.
3) Arguing about the 'right' way to parent.
4) Stress and arguments about how much money should be spent and on what items.
5) Unmet expectations about what a marriage or partnership should really look like (e.g. acceptable working and social hours spent away from the family).
6) Break in trust and respect leading to insecurity, anger and fear within the relationship.
Of course this is not an exhaustive list, but it covers the most common issues that couples need help with in order to maintain a healthy and happy relationship.
