Southpaws Specialty Surgery for Animals

About

We offer no-charge consultations with our specialist surgeons after referral from your veterinarian, so that we can assess your pet and recommend the best treatment. Our friendly staff and compassionate approach will put you and your pet at ease. We are located in Moorabbin, near Melbourne, Victoria.

At Southpaws, we pride ourselves in excellence, compassion, integrity and experience. You can be assured that we will do everything in our power to achieve a great outcome. All patients have onsite 24-hour monitoring when they are hospitalised. This means that your pet is continually monitored for change in their condition, administration of pain relief, allowing frequent toileting opportunities, ensuring your pet is clean and dry and that any issues are attended to promptly as they occur. We don’t see many after-hours emergencies, meaning that nurses are not distracted from patient care.

Our new dedicated cat ward is now open. This facility has been specifically developed for feline patients, providing consultation suites and patient housing isolated from canine patients. Owners can wait in a separate room without the distractions of cat - dog interactions. The separation of dogs and cats provides a calmer, less stressful environment - aiding patient recovery.

Southpaws has Australia’s first deep radiation therapy unit for animals, one of the most advanced 16 slice CT scanners available in Australia for animals, a live sterile-surgery lecture facility and a dedicated surgical preparation and packaging area. Our imaging capabilities include ultrasound, Xray and Xray fluoroscopy and in cooperation with Royal Canin Australia - on-site 3D printing of surgical models to better guide our surgical approach. Combine this with highly compassionate and trained nurses with the highest nurse-to-patient ratio in the industry, on-site 24 hour care, and our relaxed and caring approach and Southpaws is second-to-none at delivering the best specialist veterinary care.
