Aussiewhipmaker Whips are made on Macleay Island, which is situated in Moreton Bay Queensland Australia, not far from where it all began.

The History of an Aussie Whip Maker Aussie Whip Maker - Brian Nemeth I'm Brian Nemeth, great grandson of Joseph Nemeth, a Hungarian Soldier, Saddler and Whip Maker. On March 31, 1855 Joseph Nemeth arrived on the SS Aurora at Moreton Bay, Queensland Australia. He later married Anne Doyle and they settled at Allora on the Darling Downs, Queensland where he started his Saddlery and Whip Making business. They raised four children, one of who was my grandfather William and his brother Joseph. The two brothers took over the business during the 1890's, when their father retired, and kept it going until 1906 when they decided to close and leave Allora. The family home in Allora is still lived in and in good repair.

When my brother Peter started making whips, in 1968, I soon realized that the gift of whip making was in my genes also. I quickly developed new methods, which helped us to produce whips in large quantities to supply the trade. I also knew that I had and still have a great love for whip making. My brother Peter left during 1969 and through the years I have passed on these fine workmanship and skills to my family. I claim at this point in my life, to have made more whips than any other person in the world, having made between approximately 80 000 to 100 000 whips.

DON'T BE FOOLED TOO! I sent the whip maker a picture of my dream-whip, a D.M. Indy style whip. I simply asked, "Can you make something that looks like this?" The reply, "Yes, without doubt. The whip in your picture appears a look alike of ours. Until about 25 years ago we supplied D. M. with bull whips." How could anything go wrong with such a beginning? THEY used to make D. M. whips. I was hooked! AFTER I placed the order the maker came back with, "With reference to the photo you forwarded below (I sent another D. M. whip picture), the hand grip is a braid. We do not offer a braid at all, will not remain tight at the transition point. Further, we do not offer the pineapple knot, again not as tight." In every case they promised a better product by a design change. For a better product, I agreed. The whip comes; by the way it is packaged I can tell that this is NOT a quality whip; IT IS FOLDED 3 times in a cylinder! There is black crud at every edge of leather, there is wear on the handle, no handle strap-they decided to make that design change, the braiding at transition begins loosening after 2 hours of use. The whip sent looks NOTHING like the pictures I sent to them [NOR THEIR OWN advertising pictures!]; and they tell me that I had approved the changes. I told them that I approved the 2 specific changes for better quality; I never at any time approved the downgrading of the entire whip into a cheap knock-off. That's not even close. After many emails back and forth arguing with words, the maker did later admit that the picture I sent was an expensive whip and they do not make that kind; BUT they refuse to take any responsibility; or make good. The whip they made would be O.K. for a certain taste; but not for anyone who has seen and desires a QUALITY whip; and THIS is what is advertised at every point on their site and in every email.
