About

Tahbilk Winery is the oldest family owned winery in Victoria, home to 5 generations of the Purbrick family.

Since 1925, Tahbilk Winery, known until the year 2000 as Chateau Tahbilk, has been synonymous with the Purbrick Family. Purchased in a dilapidated state by the entrepreneur Reginald Purbrick, the fortunes of the winery and farm were soon turned by his son, Eric.

Tahbilk is a family concern: Eric's son, John, managed the farm from the 1950s, interstate distribution of the wine in the early 1980s and the cellar door until his retirement in 1995. John can still be found serving his pickles and preserves at the Cellar Door. John's son, Alister, Eric's grandson, joined the company in 1978 as winemaker and is now the Chief Executive Officer. In 2010 Alister's daughter, Hayley, joined the team to manage the Tahbilk Wine Club and Tourism Operations. From 1931 the Purbrick women have extended their hospitality and promoted their winery to a large number of visitors, colleagues and friends, excelling in the role of chatelaine.
