Quite an interesting word really. The Oxford dictionary gives the following meaning:

- (of a person or action) creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happened:

It is a phrase we hear often from new client's when explaining why they are looking to move accountants normally in the negative. In other words their existing (soon to be former) accountant was not proactive. They didn't pick up the phone to see how you were traveling, what issues you were facing in your business, often didn't tell you about something new until you asked and never, never rang to just say hello!

At The Lateral Group we will do our best to make sure the above never happens to you.

Upfront

You will never get an invoice from us that is a surprise. We will always explain the "why?" and the "what for?" and the "how much?" before we start work.

We will always provide you with options both in terms of the work we do together and the basis for payment. We understand that business can be tough going at times and provide a range of payment plans including monthly fees by agreement. We also offer a discount for payments in advance leaving more money in your pocket.

Tell it how it is!

No fluff! If the news isn't good we'll tell you. If we think your newest and greatest idea lacks marketability we'll let you down gently. If we are working together as part of your team we expect to have a voice and will do our utmost to ensure you have the best advice when and where you need it. We will not hesitate to outsource problems that exceed our expertise again ensuring you get the best advice possible.

Teach

We consider it part of our role to teach you why we do things wherever possible rather than just doing it. That way you will have a deeper understanding of your business in the long run.

Make Time for Me

We are in business too and understand that having ready access to your team at The Lateral Group is important. We commit to returning your phone calls and emails within the same business day and work towards agreed time frames for completion of your work wherever possible. If for some reason we expect a delay we will ensure you are made aware and advised of a revised completion date.
