About

Career Consulting

Using a variety of approaches (suited to your needs and request) I’ll help you find your preferred and best matched careers and jobs.

I recommend a combination of: narrative counselling (reflecting on your achievements, resources and career aspirations); self-awareness tests (I prefer Clifton Strengthsfinder); job/industry labour market exploration; job search strategies, including networking to further develop job/industry awareness and access hidden job market.

NOTE: there is no minimum or maximum number of sessions – you choose.

Interview-winning Resumes

Many reports (and my own experience) show that recruiters only look at your resume for an average of 10 seconds. Don’t be swiftly discarded into the ‘NO’ pile.

Engage more job interviews using my proven techniques and twenty years of recruitment “intelligence”.

I’ll tailor your resume to your preferred job or industry; and I’ll help you identify and markedly feature your skills, experience and achievements, significantly improving your chance of obtaining job interviews.

Job Interview preparation

Often it’s not the “best” person who gets the job but rather the applicant who presents most convincingly at an interview.

I’ll improve your confidence by preparing you for the most common interview questions (relevant to your job and industry), including the tricky questions that trip-up most applicants. I’ll provide you honest feedback (if you want it) using mock interviews, show you how to make a good first impression and how to stand out from the crowd.

Professional network development

There’s a saying: “It’s not WHAT you know but WHO you know”. Although partly true, you can certainly improve your chances of employment (and your industry-specific knowledge) by investing time in the “right circles”.

80% of jobs are never formally advertised - a variety of professional networking approaches will provide you access to the hidden job market.

I can help you: identify and use your existing network; develop a marketable on-line presence; connect with professional association and industry networks; learn to access informational interviewing and mentoring opportunities; and if you wish, refine your communication and “people” skills.

Targeted cover letters

A cover letter should NOT be just a re-hash of your resume and/or a summary of your skills and experience. Your cover letter should demonstrate that you:

can do the job – i.e.: competence in the key selection criteria

will do the job - i.e.: genuinely motivated to succeed in the role

will fit into the organisation – i.e.: demonstrated interest in the industry and the job, and share the organisation’s culture.

With a passionate and punchy cover letter, I’ll help you convince recruiters you meet these requirements.

Vocational and Psychological Testing

Many organisations and recruitment agencies require applicants to sit individual or group psychometric and vocational assessment tests, measuring general intelligence, interests, values, skills and personality.

Having administered and scored vocational tests for over 10 years I am ideally suited to assist you maximise your ratings through understanding of testing methodology and mock testing. I can provide immediate feedback on your results so that you know which areas you need to focus on before the real thing.
