What Conditions we Treat
Chiropractors treat a wide variety of health problems related to an abnormally functioning nervous system. While these conditions are too numerous to list, some of the more common health complaints are listed below.
Neck Pain - A common condition that is often related back to a structural problem with the spine. Stiffness, grinding, clicking, and pain are not normal and warrant investigation.
Headaches - Mechanical restrictions of the neck are a common cause of many types of headaches. Medications may cover up the symptoms, but ignore the underlying cause.
Low Back Pain - It is estimated that up to 80% of the population will experience an acute episode in their lifetime. The latest research shows that specific spinal manipulative therapy is the most effective form of treatment for low back pain.
Sciatica - Sciatica is severe pain in the leg caused from compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve. Once traced back to the spine, Chiropractic care can help alleviate symptoms provided the body is allowed sufficient time to heal.
Scoliosis - This sideways or lateral curvature of the spine usually starts during childhood, often for no known cause. Early detection and appropriate care can really help the developing spine. School children should be regularly checked and symptoms should not be dismissed as 'growing pains'.
Pregnancy - This period of rapid growth, hormonal changes, ligament laxity and changes in weight bearing can lead to mechanical back pain. Chiropractic is safe for all stages of pregnancy and techniques are modified to ensure patient comfort. A properly functioning low back and pelvis is essential for a normal delivery.
Children - The first trauma the spine is subjected to is the birthing process, followed by numerous childhood injuries. Colic, unexplained crying, poor appetite, breathing problems, allergic reactions, bed wetting, learning difficulties and recurring ear infections can often be traced to the nervous system.
What to Expect on your First and Future Visits to Well & Wise
Visits to Well & Wise are by appointment only. New patient appointments are usually 30 minutes to allow for a thorough health history, physical examination and treatment. The initial visit includes completing appropriate paperwork and explaining to the Chiropractor your concerns and health goals. Our Chiropractor will take a detailed history and consultation followed by a chiropractic examination. If further testing, including but not limited to the taking of x-rays are required, we will work with you to refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider. After assessing all the findings, our chiropractor will then recommend what course of treatment is appropriate for you. At the end of your first visit, you and the doctor will discuss whether further treatment is necessary, and if so, outline an appropriate treatment plan. Some conditions may resolve in one visit, while some require regular chiropractic maintenance care.
Subsequent appointments normally take between 5 and 15 minutes.
