I had an interesting encounter with VB Chinese Restaurant. My husband and I were in the area and decided to get Chinese takeaway. We have our usual favourite orders of Chinese - his is pork spare ribs with plum sauce and mine is Chicken Chow Mein with extra crunchy noodles. When I ordered, the girl taking the order said "We don't do extra crunchy noodles." I didn't understand what she was saying so I questioned this statement. She reiterated that they "don't do extra crunchy noodles". I asked her how she knew this, she said that she had received orders for extra crunchy noodles before and that they just didn't do "extra crunchy noodles". I explained that I always order this at Chinese Restaurants and that they usually put the noodles in a small paper bag on the side - they sometimes give it to me for free. some charge $1-$2 extra. I explained that I was prepared to pay the extra for the extra noodles. She still said she was sorry but they didn't do this. I asked if I could ask the Chef (it just seemed unreal). She went into the kitchen and came back with another lady I assume was the Chef. She then proceeded to tell me that they don't do "extra crunchy noodles." Once again, I told her that I still found this unusual and that I was prepared to pay the extra for the extra crunchy noodles. I also said that I was prepared to walk away and not buy from her restaurant if I couldn't get the extra crunchy noodles. She was adamant in saying that they could put the crunchy noodles that normally is put in with the meal - into a bag on the side - but would NOT provide additional noodles. Even with the offer of paying for this. We then walked out and bought from Thai Boupha around the corner. I still don't know what really happened at the Chinese Restaurant - I can't believe that they could be so terribly inflexible. And I don't understand why it seemed to be such a big deal. Whilst I appreciate it is only a small thing, it really "maketh the meal for me" and it's really what I wanted. I have given 1 star in the review as I really disliked this inflexibility - I can't actually comment about the food - good bad or otherwise as they weren't willing to provide me with the meal that I was after.
