James Davidson Architect

About

Founded in December 2009, James Davidson Architect is a studio based architecture enterprise which intimately links design practice, research consultancy, and community development activities. The practice is also home to the Brisbane branch of Emergency Architects Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that provides disaster reconstruction assistance in South East Asia and the Pacific. Underpinning the activities of James Davidson Architect is a strong belief that architecture is both product and process; we therefore value good relationships with all participants in the building process from clients to building contractors to the eventual occupiers. Our experience is that building good relationships has many benefits for everyone involved, including minimising costs, reducing stress, and quick resolution of problems.

James holds a Doctorate in Architecture and is also the principal of James Davidson Architect. Over the last 15 years he has acquired a wide range of experience both abroad and in Australia as an architectural practitioner and researcher. Graduating with first class honours from the University of Queensland in 1999, James was employed as a development manager at Brisbane developer Neolido for 3 years, and was also residential studio manager at architects Donovan Hill for a further 3 years. Having completed his PhD in 2009, which he begun during a lengthy sojourn in Latin America, James is now a research consultant for the Aboriginal Environments Research Centre at the University of Queensland. He is also a current director of Emergency Architects Australia. Due to James' previous experiences, JDA currently maintains a residential and Indigenous projects focus.

We actively foster and maintain productive client-architect relationships through regular, direct and honest communication with you. Because we know that an informed client is a happy client, we like to communicate our process to you at the beginning of our relationship so that hopefully you feel a part of it and understand the journey to the end product.
