About

Damien Keffyn - Commercial Wedding Portrait Photographer

I have more than 10 years experience as an internationally experienced and multi-award winning wedding. portrait and commercial digital and film photographer. The truth is I never thought I wanted to be a commercial wedding portrait photographer, I just wanted to be a photographer. A few years back, after shooting many weddings a lightbulb went off, it was at that moment I realised I love shooting weddings, and wanted nothing more than to shoot weddings full time.

One thing I love about wedding photography is the diversity. Shooting a wedding gives you the option to shoot all different styles of photography through the day, you can shoot products such as the rings and the cake, the brides dress and shoes, you can shoot architecture, interior, people, your shooting candids most of the day, you can shoot landscapes of the church or ceremony location surrounds, you have to know a lot about lighting, equipment.

The day is exciting, there is always something going on that is constantly making you think, wedding photography to me is probably the most exciting genre of photography because its so different and so diverse, its never the same and your always being challenged. This is why I have become a wedding photographer, the results of a day shooting a wedding, or even a small beach or private ceremony brings me satisfaction, my photography will put a smile on a brides face and even bring a tear to her eye.

Weddings are incredibly important, to most people it is the most important day in their entire lives. Therefore choosing a photographer for your wedding to capture the moments and retain those memories for you is probably one of the most important decisions you will make in relation to your day.

Of course the cake and the dress are equally important, but those items are designed and built to your specification before the day, and completely within your control. Your photographer needs to be carefully selected, you have to put 100% trust into your photographer, you have to remember, most times he or she will have 1 shot at capturing a moment, so you need to be sure you are comfortable with your photographers style and skill.

My style of photography is aligned with photojournalistic, and classic photography, but there is much more that goes into my wedding photography. I want to capture these moments in an artistic way, and in a creative way, anyone with a mobile phone or point and shoot compact camera can sit off to the side and capture things as they happen, which is also a great thing they do get a lot of fun moments the bride and groom will like, but maybe not cherish as a memory.

I need my photography to capture what the candid onlooker, or untrained professional cant see, the emotion, the action, the look that someone gives out of the corner of their eye, a playing child, a kiss of light coming through a window and lighting up the brides hair, these are the moments I need and want to capture.

I want my pictures to stand out, It doesnt matter if you can simply take pictures of things that happen, you need to do it in a beautiful and stylish way. Everyone hears photographers talk about capturing the moment but what is the good of capturing a moment in a beautiful and compelling way? I see what the bride and groom doesnt see.

As a wedding photographer I still capture the classic looks, I still use photojournalistic techniques to capture moments from the outside looking in, but I do it in a beautiful way utilising current trends, lighting, post production and experience I deliver a consistent result. Years from now I want them to feel the same emotion as they did the first time they laid eyes on each other as the Bride walked down the aisle.

If I can capture a wedding in that way, I have done my job, I am satisfied, and so too is my bride of the day.
