Hendry has been operating nationally for over 30 years. Up until the early nineties, building compliance in Australia was administered by local government. Derek Hendry saw an opportunity for improvement and in retrospect pioneered the building certification system in Australia by performing the first private building certification projects in Melbourne in 1989 and Sydney in 1990.

By applying his knowledge and experience, Derek developed guidelines and procedures which in time moved into private certification legislation in Australia. As the building surveying industry matured, so did Derek's desire to safeguard the general public, expanding Hendry's range of core services to include essential safety measure auditing in 1994 to complement client building and property requirements. Hendry has since evolved and introduced a number of specialist services within the industry. "We have been committed to servicing building owners, facility managers, tenants and the like, with one vision in mind; to make Australia a safer place."

Today, Hendry is the largest privately owned property compliance solutions firm in Australia, operating nationally. Derek plays an active role in the business - overseeing business development, presenting at public speaking events and most importantly sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience through his blog and newsletter publications.
