About

At Kate's Naturopathy clinic our vision is to foster the emergence of Naturopathic medicine and to elevate the heath of the individual and our society.

"The art of medicine is to follow nature, to imitate and assist her in the cure of disease". Thomas Reid

WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?

Art, Science, & Philosophy

Naturopathic medicine employs modern, traditional, scientific and empirical methods in the prevention and treatment of disease.

The naturopathic practitioner is informed by six

underlying principles of healing which are:

1. Work with the healing power of nature

2. Identify and treat the cause

3. First do no harm

4. Treat the whole person

5. Doctor as teacher

6. Encourage prevention

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine utilises diverse plant substances from around the world or those found in your backyard for their powerful healing and nutritional values. Every indigenous culture has used herbs for healing and spiritual purposes. Much of the knowledge we have today is gained from thousands of years of eclectic use. Even herbs and spices used in cooking yield valuable nutrition and medicinal compounds. Many conventional medications are derived from the plant world as well, leading to new research in the field, and helping us understand the powerful nature of botanical medicines.

Herbal medicine is used to treat infections, to support the immune system, to balance hormones and regulate physiology, and as tonics to improve and maintain health. The flower, roots, leaves, bark, or oils of a plant may be used in a remedy and therapy may take the form of teas, tinctures, ointments, essential oils, supplements and foods.

Even herbs can have potential side effects or interactions with conventional medications. Many herbs are also not safe to take during pregnancy, or not safe in the early part of pregnancy but extremely valuable in the third trimester and to assist with labour. Your Naturopathic practitioner is qualified to recognize these contraindications and will create a personalised protocol for your individual needs.

Clinical Nutrition

Nutrition and the therapeutic use of foods is a fundamental cornerstone of Naturopathic medicine.

Naturopathic practitioners are uniquely trained to understand the impact that your diet and daily food choices are having on your health.

Through the use of appropriate dietary modification and nutritional supplements, health concerns can be addressed and treated with minimal side effects and long lasting change.

Food intolerances, deficiencies, dietary imbalances or nutritional excesses have been associated with many medical conditions.

At Kate's Naturopathic Clinic we offer food allergy testing and culinary nutrition counselling where we discuss how to put achievable diet modifications into sustainable practice.

Addressing an underlying nutritional issue and making sustainable changes to diet or eating habits can be a significant part your journey to whole health.

Eating in a hurried or unconscious way, as so many of us have learned to do, is like receiving a love letter from the earth, but never taking the time to carefully read it. – John Robbins

Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity. – Voltaire
