User Guide To Battery Shops

Automotive batteries are one of the most essential parts of a vehicle in order for it to operate. Without a battery, a car would not be able to start or move on its own power unless it was pushed or towed by another vehicle. All vehicles are supplied by dealers and manufacturers with batteries, but there are times when these batteries fail to perform or run out of power. It is for this reason that most automotive parts and accessories shops are supplied with automotive batteries and equipment to replace or recharge these devices.

Automotive batteries are usually lead-acid type that are made up of plates of lead and separate plates of lead dioxide submerged into an electrolyte solution of about 35% sulfuric acid and 65% water. This solution causes a chemical reaction that releases electrons to the conductors to produce electricity and changes the surface of the plates to lead sulfate. When it is being recharged, the chemical reaction is reversed, restoring the plates to their original conditions.

Automotive batteries are available at automotive parts and accessories shops in Australia. Some of these shops provide services that include battery replacement by motor mechanics. But there are some automotive parts and accessories shops that are only authorized by manufacturers to perform vehicle parts repair or replacement for a specific make or model.

The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association is the peak body that is concerned with the manufacturing, re-manufacturing, wholesaling, distribution and retailing of all vehicle parts, accessories, tools, equipment, and services.

Automotive battery tips

  • Whenever the vehicle's charge system is inadequate to fully charge a battery, battery charger can be used.
  • A vehicle can be jump started by the battery of another vehicle or by a portable battery booster.
  • Batteries should be monitored and periodically charged to retain their capacity whenever in storage.
  • When changing a battery, it is recommended to disconnect the ground connection first to prevent accidental short-circuits between the battery terminal and the frame of the vehicle.

Tips when buying at a automotive parts and accessories store

  • Know all the details of the parts and accessories that you need for you vehicle and compare them to each other in order to realize their suitability for you. Some accessories might not be compatible with your car and might not produce the desired change.
  • Choose the right automotive parts store. Reputable and trusted dealers often have good track records and are recognized by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association.
  • Ask for help from family and colleagues for any recommendations.
  • Check all the parts and accessories for any damage before purchasing them and do not be afraid to ask questions every time.
  • Car automotive stores should always have their policies posted and should be able to address all your concerns and queries to your satisfaction. If they are unable to explain a particular process, they may not be the most qualified people to take care of your car.
