Carnegie Kindergarten

About

Carnegie Kindergarten is a community kindergarten that provides an educational program for preschool age children. We value the unique and individual identity of each child whilst respecting the rights and encouraging the involvement of families in furthering the educational outcomes for their children.

We value diversity and provide broad, balanced and flexible programs allowing for access and participation by all children and their families ensuring they feel accepted, heard and valued.

We believe by facilitating partnerships between families and educators and encouraging communication and involvement of families, children’s learning and development is enriched. Families are encouraged to be involved in our kindergarten through the Parent Advisory Group, social events and actively contributing to our programs.

In order for children’s learning to be meaningful, it must be self-initiated, spontaneous, self-directed and relevant to their interests. National Quality Standards are adhered to in an environment where responsive, thoughtful early childhood professionals facilitate the development of the individual and adopt and value a child centred approach.

Using the principles of the National Quality Framework we provide programs that recognise the value of:

-learning through play

-intentional teaching

-open ended play experiences

-exploration of materials

-experimentation

-risk taking

-respect for nature

-environmental awareness

-culture

-self and others

-family and community involvement

-child directed learning

-independence

-child’s voice

-children’s health and comfort needs

-secure responsive and collaborative relationships between children and educators

We believe the educator’s role is to recognise each child’s unique characteristics and plan for their needs, strengths, interests and developmental level. We believe supporting children to develop their social, emotional and communication skills is vital in preparing them for the next step in their educational journey.
