Brunswick Street Antiques 2.04 km

420 Brunswick St, Fitzroy, VIC, 3065

Large 2500 square feet show room of antique/period/secondhand furniture with different styles. We have furniture from France, England and Australia of course. We have bedroom suites, dining tables, bookcases, bedside cabinets, chairs, chest of drawers, you name it we may have it. We restore furniture using tradition methods and safe environmental methods, such as we use bio-degradable strippers and natural shellac finishes. WE DELIVER ALL OVER AUSTRALIA, we have removalists whom can deliver to your door anywhere, no need to go to warehouse, deliveries are done door to door. Local deliveries are done by us and can be arranged to meet your busy schedule. We deliver either early morning or evenings. Payments can be made by credit card, cheque, cash, etc. We also have a layby system if you like to take advantage of paying for your items over time. Delivery to the local area is free, but we charge for further out usually $30 dollars, we can forget this fee if you purchase multiple items or larger piece of us. We are located in busy Brunswick Street near Alexandra Parade (Eastern Freeway), easy access from most parts of Melbourne. From the northern suburbs, we are 15 minutes away. Eastern Suburbs 20 minutes away and now with the new Eastern Freeway extension we are no more then 30-40 minutes away even from outer eastern suburbs. We have been in the antique trade for over 20 years. Since I was a young boy i have played in my father’s antique/second hand shop and traveled many a exciting journey. We originally started in Chapel St. Prahran with a friend for 3 years and have now expanded to Brunswick Street for the last 14 years. If you have any requests also for furniture items it is best to talk to me as sometimes dealers are in their own world of they think customers want and with out feedback we don't know what the customer is thinking or needs. We get to ask to restore a lot of furniture and sometimes we are so busy we have to reject work, we can then assist you with our contacts we recommend for your restoration work, and usually we reject work for 1-2 months. We think this is fair otherwise, we don't get other peoples jobs done. Come and explore our shop at your leisure, we have furniture from most periods including Victorian, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, Federation, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Retro 1950-60's. We have different timbers such as blackwood, maple, cedar, ash, mahogany, pine, rosewood, and oak European, etc. We have specialised over time in Arts and Crafts furniture and still do to some degree, we always try to have large range of hard to obtain Arts and Crafts furniture in Australia, but this is not easy, this period had such a short time period when it was made from 1890 to 1918 say roughly. In American arts and crafts furniture commands huge prices and celebrities in the USA have been purchasing this furniture from makers like Stickley for thousands of dollars. You will find arts and crafts furniture from us at far more reasonable prices. We have a passion for what we do and love timber and its natural beauty. We believe in conservation of what is already made and believe with our heart that you cannot go wrong purchasing a antique or second hand piece. Purchasing modern furniture especially chipboard and laminex, etc. does not save the forest and conserve what is already there. Values of antiques do go up and down with time, choosing the right piece will see you well ahead in the long run. We have seen how timber filing cabinets once worth $300-$500 each are now easily selling for $1200-$1500 restored. Demand for certain items has just increased NOT DECREASED and we believe this will be the case in the future. Purchase form IKea or any other modern store your furniture and see what they will give you for it next week, they don't even want to know you, if you return it, lucky to put it on the front lawn for free for somebody to pick up the next week. We have a passion for antiques and the fair value they represent.
